CryptoHacks Archive was built to answer one question: what actually happened? The cryptocurrency ecosystem has suffered hundreds of billions of dollars in losses since Bitcoin's first major exchange failure in 2011. Yet the full story — how funds were stolen, where they went, and how they were laundered — is rarely told in a single, accessible place.
We aggregate incident data from leading security firms, on-chain analysis platforms, investigative journalists, and blockchain explorers to produce the most complete public record available. Fund Status Definitions
Note on USD values: Dollar amounts are approximate and based on the asset price at the time of the hack. Subsequent price movements — whether up or down — are not reflected. Recovered amounts are stated in USD at the time of recovery where known.
Update Frequency
Automated 6-Hour Polling
Our backend polls the DeFiLlama Hacks API every 6 hours. New incidents above $50M are automatically ingested and added to the public database. Amounts and chain data are updated as reports are revised.
Manual Laundering Analysis
On-chain laundering narratives are curated by hand. Each analysis traces fund movements through mixers, bridges, and exchanges using blockchain explorer data and published security firm reports.
Data Versioning
Incident records carry a "Last updated" timestamp. Historical records are periodically revised as new information emerges — for example, when funds are recovered months after an incident.
Source Cross-Referencing
All automated ingests are cross-referenced against rekt.news, de.fi, and security firm reports before going live. Discrepancies in amounts or dates are flagged for manual review.
